Letter from the Drum Major

Dear Incoming Freshmen and Parents,

My name is John Schultz and I am a sophomore in the Sterling Heights High School Band Program and a current Drum Major of the Marching Band. I would like to tell you a bit about the band program and marching band at SHHS. This is my second year being a part of the band program and it is one of the best experiences I’ve had. To me, the thing that makes this band program special is the family atmosphere that all of the students share. The band has such a unique atmosphere because there are so many people you become friends with that you wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to meet. All of the students in this incredible program are welcoming and I feel so fortunate to see so many friendly faces from all grade levels. All these people help make the SHHS band program a supportive environment for all.
I also wanted to talk a bit about our marching band, where I serve as one of the three drum majors, as well. At first I was hesitant about joining the marching band because I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle the time requirements, but in the end, I’m glad I joined. Being able to work with my peers outside of school hours towards a common goal gives us all a sense of accomplishment and bonds us closer together as SHHS Stallions. I still remember the feeling of walking into school on the first day as a freshman last year, and it made me feel so much better knowing that I already knew other students that I could count on. I feel so lucky to have experienced all that I have, and meet all the people that I did, and it’s all because of these great band programs.

Sincerely,
John Schultz
